College Ticket Notes: Xavier Breaks Record For Men's Basketball

In Cincinnati, Steve Watkins noted Xavier men’s basketball is "approaching 8,200 season tickets sold" for this season and has broken the "prior record of 8,120" set in '01-02. XU sold "more than 8,000 season tickets last season for the third time" since Cintas Center opened in '00. Cintas Center’s capacity is 10,224, and XU averaged 10,475 fans "per home game last season." XU has already "sold out of single-game tickets for the Feb. 24 game against defending national champ Villanova," but it is still "selling season tickets and six-game packs that could include the Villanova game" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 10/16).

A MEAN MACHINE: In Texas, Brett Vito noted North Texas has "sold 6,792 season tickets" for football this year, up 46% from last year, and had 1,298 donors to its Mean Green Scholarship Fund, up 20%. UNT attracted a "program record 30,105 fans for its Sept. 29 game against Louisiana Tech and drew 29,519 for its season-opening win against SMU." Those two turnouts have UNT on course to "set a season attendance record for the second straight year." UNT "drew 22,362 fans per game last season." The school is averaging 24,104 fans per game this season (DENTON RECORD-CHRONICLE, 10/17).

PAYING TOP DOLLAR: In Syracuse, Chris Carlson noted Syracuse Univ. is "handling the sale of tickets" for its Feb. 23 men's basketball game against Duke "differently than every other home game this year." Single-game tickets are "still not on sale." When they do go on sale, the tickets will "start at $90, more than double any other game." Syracuse will use "dynamic pricing to set the price for the game." The school has "used that process for other high-profile games in recent years." Delaying the single-game sales of the Duke game also "allows Syracuse to leverage those tickets and encourage fans to buy season tickets, multiple-game packages and group packages" (SYRACUSE.com, 10/17).
