Cirque Du Soleil Creating Show Based Around Story Of Messi's Life

There are few details on how the company will depict the story of Messi and his rise to prominenceGETTY IMAGES

Cirque du Soleil is "producing one of the company's signature acrobatic shows" based on the life of FC Barcelona F Lionel Messi, according to Daniel Politi of the N.Y. TIMES. There are "few details on how the company will depict the story of Messi" and his rise from a young Argentinian boy to "perhaps the best player in soccer history." The show's international tour is set to begin in '19, although cities and dates "have yet to be announced." This will be Cirque du Soleil's "first foray into soccer." The company is most likely "hoping to tap into an audience that might not otherwise go to one of the 20 shows the company is staging around the world, including tributes to the Beatles and Michael Jackson." Messi posted a video on Instagram of himself "kicking a clown's nose while wearing a Cirque du Soleil T-shirt" (N.Y. TIMES, 10/11).
