Franchise Notes

In N.Y., Stefan Bondy notes the Knicks have a regular-season game in London on Jan. 17, and C Enes Kanter's international arrest warrant issued by Turkey may hinder his "ability to play." Kanter said that he is "unsure yet whether he'll have to stay in the U.S." The Turkish government "issued the arrest warrant in May of last year and Kanter faces over four years in prison" for him "speaking freely -- specifically against Turkey’s president." Kanter: "I would love to go out there and help the team win. But I have no idea." Bondy notes the Knicks and NBA have time to "assess this situation and determine a solution" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 10/9).

UNEXPECTED SEASON: THE ATHLETIC's Julian McWilliams wrote the A’s, who made the playoffs but lost to the Yankees in the Wild Card, "surprised a lot of people this year, including their front office." Management expected the team to "get better based on how the young group of guys played in September and October" of '17, but "not this much better." Now the A’s might have to "open the checkbook a bit." Or perhaps A's Exec VP/Baseball Operations Billy Beane and his staff will take the "alternative approach and guess that this season was an anomaly." That is the "question that hung in the air after all of this: did the A’s front office think all of this was real this year?" The A’s certainly "arrived ahead of schedule." McWilliams: "But what does that all really mean as the A’s head into 2019 and beyond? There’s an entire offseason that will answer that" (THEATHLETIC.com, 10/5).

BEER OVER CHEESE: In Green Bay, Richard Ryman notes the Brewers in their run to the NLCS are helping to make tickets for Monday's 49ers-Packers game at Lambeau Field "more affordable." Titletown Tickets & Tours Founder & GM Bill Wenzel said, "Right now, people are really into the Brewers. If there is [an NLCS] game at that time, which one do you think the fans are going to pick?" Ryman notes the average lowest get-in price for 49ers-Packers was $105 yesterday, the "lowest price of the year, and down from $132 last week and $145 on Sept. 4" (GREEN BAY PRESS-GAZETTE, 10/9).
