Spurs' Turnover Forces H-E-B To Recast Commercial Roster

DeRozan (c) is the sole newcomer to the offbeat series of commercials featuring notable Spurs playersSPURS

A production crew was on hand at the Spurs practice facility Tuesday to "begin filming" another round of commercials for local grocer H-E-B, according to Jeff McDonald of the SAN ANTONIO EXPRESS-NEWS. Spurs F LaMarcus Aldridge is "back for his fourth installment of advertisements this season," and this year’s cast is "set to welcome" new Spurs G DeMar DeRozan. The ads will again include Spurs G Patty Mills, F Rudy Gay and C Pau Gasol. The campaign faced a slight recast as Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili, Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green, who all had "roles in previous incarnations of the popular spots," are no longer with the team. The "offbeat commercial series began" in the mid-00s, with Tim Duncan as the "sole star." Duncan has "moved into a sort-of 'legends series' cast, shooting spots with retired former Spurs including David Robinson, George Gervin and Sean Elliott." Ginobili is "expected to join that group this year." Spurs coach Gregg Popovich, who "made a couple of short cameos a few years ago," will not be part of this season's ads (SAN ANTONIO EXPRESS-NEWS, 10/3).
