Bartolo Colon Details "Workout" Routine In New Kingsford Ad

Rangers P Bartolo Colon can be seen "working over a grill, carrying around a 110-pound hog and chomping into a rib" in a new ad for Kingsford charcoal with the theme that "there is no offseason in baseball or at the grill," according to Evan Grant of the DALLAS MORNING NEWS. The 45-year-old pitcher's 45-second ad, which was posted yesterday morning, had "already received nearly 100,000 views by the late afternoon." In the ad, Rangers CF Delino DeShields Jr. "asks Colon the secret to his longevity," to which Colon replies, "No days off." The video then "breaks into a montage of exercise-related terms and barbecue related actions." Throughout the montage, Colon "sports a red baseball cap emblazoned with the logo: 'RIBS.'" The montage then "ends with Colon doing a slow-motion belly jiggle." Colon filmed the ad "around Labor Day at Globe Life Park and at a Dallas-area home" (DALLASNEWS.com, 9/26). In Ft. Worth, Jeff Wilson noted the ad also includes Colon "doing squats with a dead pig draped around his neck and upright rows with bags of Kingsford." Wilson: "Solid product placement." Colon said that he "enjoys doing commercials, but doesn't do many of them because he isn't confident that he will be able to correctly pronounce words in English" (STAR-TELEGRAM.com, 9/26). Kingsford is in its first full season as an official MLB league sponsor (THE DAILY).
