McKenna believed her husband was divorced from his ex when she married him in December '11NFL

NFL Senior VP & Chief Information Officer MICHELLE MCKENNA is suing the adult children of her late husband PATRICK DOYLE, saying that she "learned he was still married to his first wife the whole time -- and that his son allegedly knew all along but continued to use her as a cash cow after their dad had died." McKenna married Doyle in Florida in December '11, "believing he was divorced from his ex, BERNADETTE DOYLE." However, Bernadette Doyle "had an appeal pending on the divorce -- and a judge overturned it" in June '12. Now McKenna is "suing her would-have-been step-kids, and their dad’s estate," for more than $30M in damages -- "plus at least $80,000 for all the money she gave" Doyle's son BRADLEY over the years (NYPOST.com, 9/24).

CAROLINA CALLING: The Panthers yesterday partnered with Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina in Charlotte to pack 1,500 food supply boxes for "Hurricane Florence relief efforts." Every Panthers player "was present," and Owner DAVID TEPPER was "elbow-to-elbow with the players as they packed the boxes" (CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, 9/25). Meanwhile, Panthers coach RON RIVERA will serve as Grand Marshal for Sunday's NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series race at Charlotte Motor Speedway (CMS).

RUN CLUB: RUNNER'S WORLD's Danielle Zickl profiled Univ. of Illinois AD JOSH WHITMAN, who is part of a running club that jogs together "before every home football game." Every Saturday morning since '16, Whitman and other IU fans meet at a specified location at 7:00am and "log a few miles" around campus. Whitman said, “Our participation is up from when we started. We still have down weeks though -- sometimes only five people show up if the weather’s bad. But sometimes there are as many as 60 people. It’s become a part of the game day experience” (RUNNERSWORLD.com, 9/24).

GOLDEN INVESTMENT: Pro Football HOFer JOE MONTANA is investing in the upstart Fan Controlled Football League (FCFL), which "plans to launch" next Memorial Day. The league is "set up to allow fans to control most aspects of the eight teams, from drafting players to calling plays." Montana said, "There is room for something new and different, and I haven’t seen anything like this before." The FCFL is also hiring former A's and 49ers exec ANDY DOLICH as COO (SPORTS BUSINESS JOURNAL, 9/24 issue).

NAMESDALE EARNHARDT JR. is now a Redskins season-ticket holder. He said, “I’ve never had season tickets. ... I usually get to one home game a year, but I’m thinking this year I’ll get to more than one.” He added that the tickets were a “gift from Pepsi, a long-time partner from his full-time racing days” (WASHINGTONPOST.com, 9/24)....COLIN KAEPERNICK made a “surprise appearance Saturday at the Lower Eastside Girls Club” in N.Y. that “combats poverty with career training and mentoring.” Kaepernick was the “speaker at the club’s third annual Nike Backpack Giveaway,” and the audience “gave him a hero’s welcome” (NYPOST.com, 9/24)....Eagles S MALCOLM JENKINS yesterday gave a motivational speech to youth football players at the Lonnie Young Recreation Center in Philadelphia. IN MEMORY: PGA Tour Champions Shaw Charity Classic Founder & Chair CLAY RIDDELL “passed away last weekend at 81.” PGA Tour Champions President GREG MCLAUGHLIN said Riddell “had a vision of trying to give back to the [Calgary] community, and each year he kept trying to raise the bar.” Family and friends held a “memorial celebration” for Riddell yesterday (CALGARY SUN, 9/24).
