Vegas Casino Exec Concerned With Raiders' Stadium Parking Plan

MGM Resort Int'l President Bill Hornbuckle, a member of the Raiders' Las Vegas stadium board, is worried about the "parking-challenged stadium site and proposal offered up" by the team, according to Alan Snel of LVSPORTSBIZ.com. Hornbuckle at the board's meeting on Thursday said he was "petrified" that his company’s hotel-casino parking garages and lots on the Strip are "going to be choked out." Snel noted the lots are on the "other side of Interstate 15 from the 62.6-acre stadium site." Hornbuckle added the parking crunch could also “squeeze out tourists.” Las Vegas Stadium Co. COO Don Webb said, "It would be disingenuous for us to say we are satisfied." Snel noted Webb dropped an "interesting number on the board when he said that 20,000-25,000 people would be reaching the 65,000-seat stadium by walking from the Strip." That is "a lot of stadium-related cars that will be occupying spaces at those two hotels." After the 90-minute session, Webb said that he "wasn’t insulted by Hornbuckle’s concerns and that parking is a concern to himself, too" (LVSPORTSBIZ.com, 9/20). Webb "assured Hornbuckle that the Raiders’ parking plan is still a work in progress and that they would continue to revisit the issue." He said, "There are so many conditions that should cause us to constantly be rethinking parking and transportation that it’s difficult, and I think impractical, to say we have a solution and that’s the solution for the next 30 years" (LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL, 9/21).
