Michigan Basketball Season-Ticket Sales Hit 18-Year High

UM's uptick comes after two straight years of success -- which included a national title appearance last seasonGETTY IMAGES

The recent success of Michigan men's basketball "has translated to the ticket office," as 10,775 season tickets have been "sold entering this week -- the most in 18 years," according to Orion Sang of the DETROIT FREE PRESS. This comes after "two straight years of success -- seasons that had a Sweet Sixteen and national title appearance and two consecutive Big Ten Tournament titles." Student ticket sales have "increased" more than 50%, with 3,086 season tickets "claimed by members of the Maize Rage" student section. The UM athletic department said that "interest in group ticketing and different ticket packs have skyrocketed," as more than 9,000 customized, six-game and family ticket packs have been sold, "more than three times last year's total" (DETROIT FREE PRESS, 9/7). In Detroit, James Hawkins notes overall ticket demand "trumps" UM's '13-14 season-ticket sales, when the team was "coming off a national title game appearance, while the student demand is similar" (DETROIT NEWS, 9/7).
