Yahoo Backs NFL Live Streaming Deal With Shoulder Programming

Bennett will headline a new lifestyle show "Mostly Football," developed in partnership with Complex Media GETTY IMAGES

Yahoo Sports is supporting its new NFL live streaming deal with an extensive series of new and returning programs. The digital media entity, part of Verizon’s Oath subsidiary, this week will debut the first full season of its new rights package with the NFL in which it will stream in-market and primetime national games. The deal started in January with last season’s playoffs, initially driving more than 1 million new installs of Yahoo Sports’ mobile app, but now extends to a full season and will run through '22. The package of games is being supplemented with a wide array of original programming. “Mostly Football” will be a sports, culture and lifestyle show developed in partnership with Complex Media featuring former NFLer Martellus Bennett, comedian James Davis and broadcaster Ben Lyons. Yahoo’s “Fantasy Football Live” will return for a 13th season hosted by Brad Evans, Andy Behrens and Liz Loza. Those programs will be joined by two video series that recently debuted and were key parts of Yahoo Sports’ NewFront presentation last spring in N.Y. “The Rush” is a daily, short-form morning show that focuses on the day’s must-see sports moments, while “The Spin” is a more analysis-based effort leaning on Yahoo Sports’ in-house reporting resources. “There is a lot happening around football for us,” said Oath VP & GM of Sports Geoff Reiss. “The package of games gives us a real tentpole, and what we’ve sought to do in addition is build a series of content initiatives that bring people back during the week and continuing to use the (mobile) app."
