JGR Continues Talk With Truex Amid Furniture Row's Uncertainty

Truex could potentially bring Bass Pro Shops with him as a sponsor if he were to move to JGR GETTY IMAGES

Joe Gibbs Racing continues to have serious discussions with Martin Truex Jr. about the driver joining the team next year, according to sources. The potential move has vaulted to the top of watercooler talk around the garage after THE DAILY last week reported the possible move to JGR’s No. 19 Toyota had opened up for Truex. The defending Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series champ has sought out other options amid the uncertain future of his current team, Furniture Row Racing. Those talks have continued, and the move could include Truex bringing Bass Pro Shops with him to JGR and current No. 19 driver Daniel Suarez moving to a Toyota alliance team. Furniture Row losing Truex and Bass Pro would put its future in serious doubt as it is already set to lose its other major primary sponsor, 5-hour Energy, after this year. FRR has declined to discuss its future or Truex’ possible move in recent days, but JGR Owner Joe Gibbs did comment to ESPN on Sunday night after the race at Darlington Raceway. Gibbs said, “This is that time of year, isn't it? I think there's a lot right now that is up in the air. I think the big thing is what the 78 (team does) and everything about that. Right now, there's nothing to comment on. ... We do like (Suarez). There's so much out there; most of it is not accurate."
