Motorsport Network Investing In NASCAR Video Game Licensee

Motorsport Network has invested in NASCAR video game licensee 704Games, giving the latter new funding to try to expand its gaming platforms. The two sides announced the news today, along with the Charlotte-based video game company also revealing an extension of its licensing deal with NASCAR Team Properties through ’29. This marks Motorsport Network’s first investment into the NASCAR gaming space. The company says that the move also signals its interest in esports, which 704Games has started getting involved with over the last year. The sides are planning to launch an expanded esports platform around "NASCAR Heat 3," which comes out this fall. 704Games started holding esports competitions at this February’s Daytona 500. 704Games CEO Paul Brooks, Motorsport Network CEO Colin Smith and NASCAR VP/Consumer Innovation Blake Davidson were all involved in the deal. Smith used to serve as NASCAR/VP of Digital Media, while Brooks also was formerly a top exec at NASCAR. 704Games says other investors who it has disclosed include HC2 Holdings, PlayFast Games, Leo Capital Holdings and Gaming Nation.
