Nationals Debut Bullpen Cart; Most Relievers Not Interested In Using It

The Nationals debuted the WGL Energy Bullpen Cart this weekend, becoming the third MLB team to "bring back the bullpen cart this season," but most of the team's relievers "expect to decline" using it, according to Jesse Dougherty of the WASHINGTON POST. Nationals P Koda Glover said, “Absolutely not. I am not taking that thing.” Nats P Trevor Gott also said he is "not going to ride it in.” Glover added, “It’s a terrible idea. Now if the bullpen is across the street or something, I might take it. But it’s not, so I can run. I’m off on that.” But Nationals manager Dave Martinez said, "If it makes the game quicker, awesome." Dougherty noted the Nationals "looked into a bullpen cart in July, secured a sponsorship from WGL Energy and then waited four weeks" for Tampa-based SportsKartz to "build a customized edition." Nationals Principal Owner Mark Lerner has been "eyeing a bullpen cart for a while and had a hand in designing this one." The cart "features a Nationals logo on every tire, a blue hat on top and baseball mitts behind each headlight, to make them look like baseballs when turned on" (WASHINGTON POST, 8/18).
