SDSU Season-Ticket Sales Down In Second Year Since Chargers' Exodus

SDSU could get a bump in season ticket sales this year with a strong showing in its Aug. 31 openerGETTY IMAGES

Ahead of the second season following the Chargers' departure for L.A., San Diego State is "not seeing the same Bolts bump in football season ticket sales that it did a year ago," according to Kirk Kenney of the SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE. Season-ticket sales are at 13,485, and they could "approach 14,000 by the home opener against Sacramento State" on Sept. 8 at SDCCU Stadium. Sales at this point last year "were 14,660 and topped out at 14,914." SDSU Exec Associate AD/External Relations Steve Schnall said, "We had the perfect storm last year with the Chargers leaving, a great home schedule, coming off a year where a guy (D.J. Pumphrey) set the NCAA career rushing record. All those things were in our favor. This year the schedule is not as good, but we’re ahead of where we were two years ago." SDSU could get a "bump this year with a strong showing" in its Aug. 31 season opener at Stanford. SDSU coach Rocky Long said that he "believes the biggest bump in ticket sales will be when Chargers fans finally come to grips with their team being gone" (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 8/17).
