A federal judge yesterday "dismissed RICK PITINO's lawsuit against Adidas ... siding with the apparel company's claim that arbitration is required out of court." The former Univ. of Louisville men's basketball coach filed a federal lawsuit in October '17 "alleging that Adidas deliberately damaged his reputation." Adidas "terminated its personal services contract with Pitino mere hours after he was fired" by the UL Athletic Association as the school was "ensnared in the FBI's investigation into corruption in college basketball recruiting" (Louisville COURIER-JOURNAL, 8/15).

EXPANDING HORIZONS: The Bloomberg Players Technology Summit took place yesterday in S.F., and the panels "included tech platforms for sports content, the future of sports betting" and a discussion of esports, "including the lack of gender diversity in that field." Warriors F ANDRE IGUODALA said, "This is a new age for athletes. We understand our platforms. That we have a voice, that our influence carries. The data is there to show it." Warriors F KEVIN DURANT was "part of the day's closing panel," along with his business partner, Thirty Five Media co-Founder RICH KLEIMAN. Durant said that he had "some regrets about simply trying to emulate his predecessors, looking for deals with sports drink and fast-food companies" (S.F. CHRONICLE, 8/15).

HONORS & AWARDS: NFLPA Exec Dir DEMAURICE SMITH was selected by Georgetown's Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center to receive its annual leadership award. Smith, whose wife, KAREN, is a breast cancer survivor, will "receive his Lombardi award during its annual gala" on Nov. 17 (THEUNDEFEATED.com, 8/14)....The A's will honor the seven inaugural members of their new Athletics HOF in a "pregame ceremony" prior to their game against the Yankees on Sept. 5.
