College Football Notes: UCF Sees Big Uptick In Ticket Sales For '18
In Orlando, Kyle Swenson noted UCF has "sold more than 23,000 season tickets this year -- almost 8,000 more" than last year -- "bringing the total number sold" to 91% of its inventory. UCF expects to "sell even more season tickets in the coming weeks." So far, 28 sections of Spectrum Stadium are "completely sold out." Last year, UCF's tickets sales totaled $4.46M, a 13.31% increase from '16 when the school's total ticket sales were $3.93M. This year’s numbers "should be even higher based on the team's recent success and increased season ticket sales" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 8/7).
STAY CONNECTED: The Univ. of Florida has begun $6.3M in upgrades to Ben Hill Griffin Stadium's Wi-Fi that will be "fully completed" by the '19 season. UF has considered a "total re-do of its wireless network for at least five years to combat sagging attendance numbers." UF coach Dan Mullen wants to "fill the Gators' student section every game." Upgraded Wi-Fi "should help" (ORLANDOSENTINEL.com, 8/8).
NORTH DALLAS FORTY: SMU announced a "massive party deck will be the new student section" inside Gerald J. Ford Stadium for the upcoming season. Renderings show a "multi-level party platform that will be built in the north end zone." It features "awnings for shade, bar-height table tops and umbrellas along with plenty of areas for students to stand and watch the game." SMU is "ripping out nearly four sections of lower bowl seating to build the new student area." School officials said that the area is for "students only and no other ticket holders will be allowed onto the decks" (FOX4NEWS.com, 8/7).
