Media Notes

The CP noted the Canadiens’ "poor performance" last season "hurt" french-language TVA Sports' bottom line. TVA announced a net loss of C$9.7M during Q2. TVA in a statement said the Canadiens missing the Stanley Cup Playoffs “resulted in a decrease in advertising revenues associated with them" (CP, 8/2).

STILL LOOKING: In St. Louis, Dan Caesar notes the "search to replace Kelly Chase as the Blues radio analyst continues, with candidates and team officials juggling vacations around interviews." An announcement of who will replace him is "expected by the end of August." Blues VP/Broadcast & Content Development and team play-by-play announcer Chris Kerber said "'upwards of 20' people have been interviewed, and that the search is in the whittling process." It is believed the group includes former Blues players Terry Yake, Jamie Rivers and Cam Janssen -- "all of whom have been involved in broadcasting" (ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH, 8/3).

BRANCHING OUT: CABLEFAX DAILY notes OTT service Cheddar is "launching a Cheddar Sports block for two hours every night." Cheddar Founder & CEO Jon Steinberg said, “We’re going to cover the new weapons in Fortnite, the teams that won in Overwatch ... a new game for Nintendo Switch." He added, "The NFL will not come after me for a two-minute clip, and that to me is a much better place to play" (CABLEFAX DAILY, 8/3).
