The NFL Cardinals, city of Glendale and Arizona Sports & Tourism Authority will contribute $100M worth of "major upgrades" to Univ. of Phoenix Stadium before it hosts Super Bowl LVII in '23, according to Jen Fifield of the ARIZONA REPUBLIC. Stadium club area renovations, made with "female fans in mind," will cost about $28M. The Cardinals have "completed the first phase of a two-phase overhaul" to the stadium's club areas on the east and west sides of the stadium. The team "will have the second phase complete by the time this season starts." The first phase "included the creation of the Flight Lounge, which serves wine, and Bubble Lounge, [which] serves champagne and wine." During the second phase, the team "added new bars and food service areas, redid the flooring and lighting, brought in TVs and a new sound system" and got new furniture. The Bird's Nest lounge area also "has a new bar and buffet, and a new environment." Another $28M will go toward the "parking lot, pedestrian tunnel and bridge" and security for the stadium. The Cardinals expect to spend $35M on "future stadium upgrades." Cardinals President Michael Bidwill said that the team is "committed to spending this much more" between now and Super Bowl LVII on "making sure the stadium is up-to-date." This could mean "upgrading cellular service once 5G comes along, maybe a new scoreboard, other major technology upgrades and other renovations" (ARIZONA REPUBLIC, 7/28).
