Levy, Dodgers Soft Launching Robotic Chef At Dodger Stadium
Levy Restaurants, Miso Robotics and the Dodgers have finalized plans to begin a July 30 soft launch of its robotic chef at Dodger Stadium in advance of a more formalized debut of the technology in mid-August. The AI-powered robot called Flippy will cook fried food such as chicken tenders, nuggets and tater tots at the ballpark, bringing the technology into service at a North American sports venue after months of planning and development by the three entities. The robot uses a combination of cameras, AI, thermal scanners and lasers to conduct kitchen tasks and is designed in part to shift human workers away from more dangerous, repetitive tasks such as working a deep fryer and into other roles. The robot is also aimed at improving fan wait times and creating more consistent food quality. Levy Restaurants’ E15 analytics subsidiary, which is leading the robotics project, intends to follow up the Dodger Stadium installation with another at Staples Center later this year. “As we get up and running in L.A. with this, I would anticipate the acceleration of this technology across the industry to really increase,” E15 President Jaime Faulkner said.
