Franchise Notes

In Baltimore, Katherine Fominykh reports the Ravens are "doing away with paper tickets" beginning with the '18 season. Fans can "access their tickets through the Ravens Mobile App, which can be accessed on a smartphone in its corresponding app store." If fans' only option is to use a print-out ticket, Ravens ticket officials will "still accept them and will station additional ticket officials at gate entrances in the coming seasons to help" (BALTIMORE SUN, 7/13).

OWNS THE ROOM: In Charlotte, Tom Sorensen wrote new Panthers Owner David Tepper is "quick with his answers," direct and succinct. Early in Tepper's introductory press conference, it became "evident that he owns the room in which he speaks." Sorensen: "He strikes me as likeable. ... My first impression of Tepper is that he's comfortable, he's cool, and that I like him. If he is who he purports to be, you will, too" (CHARLOTTEOBSERVER.com, 7/12).

SIGN OF POOR TASTE: In Boston, Jason Mastrodonato notes there was a "momentary lapse in judgement last night when a sign" featuring the late Tony Conigliaro's bruised face from a '67 "beaning was placed on a broken elevator." The sign read, "Elevator out of order, we apologize for the inconvenience." A Red Sox spokesperson said that the team was "investigating and the sign was 'unsanctioned' and 'wrongly put up'" (BOSTON HERALD, 7/13).
