Oklahoma State Latest School To Offer Alcohol At Football Games

Beer will be sold at up to 22 locations adjacent to concessions stands throughout Boone Pickens StadiumGETTY IMAGES

Oklahoma State has "voted to extend" the sale of alcohol at home football games this season following a "successful trial run of beer sales this past spring" at baseball and softball games, according to Jason Elmquist of the STILLWATER NEWS PRESS. OSU Deputy AD Chad Weiberg said of the program, "The feedback that we got from the fans was very positive about it. They enjoyed having the option of having that available to them, generally. Also, it did not have an impact on the fans that chose not to partake in it, either." Beer will be "sold at up to 22 locations adjacent to existing concessions stands throughout Boone Pickens Stadium," and OSU will also "introduce a no re-entry policy" for the stadium. Weiberg said that fans will be "limited to purchasing two beverages per visit to the concessions and sales will end at the start of the fourth quarter for football games." This announcement comes "just a few days after OSU released plans for an enhanced fan experience at football games" (STILLWATER NEWS PRESS, 7/13).

THIRD TEAM IN BIG 12: In Oklahoma City, Ruiz & Wright report OSU joins Texas and West Virginia "as the only Big 12 schools where fans can purchase beer throughout the stadium" (OKLAHOMAN, 7/13). In Tulsa, Mark Cooper notes alcohol has "previously only been available on the suite and club levels" during football games. OSU will also "sell beer at women's soccer games this fall and at Gallagher-Iba Arena during men's and women's basketball and wrestling competitions this winter." Wieberg said that he "did not have an estimate for the amount of revenue beer sales will bring to the athletic department," as it is not the "driving factor behind this decision" (TULSA WORLD, 7/13).
