Iowa Speedway Hopes To Land NASCAR Cup Series Race

Hyatt said that he is also interested in Iowa Speedway hosting NASCAR's All-Star raceGETTY IMAGES

Iowa Speedway President David Hyatt has made getting a Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race "one of his top priorities" since taking over the role in February, according to Tommy Birch of the DES MOINES REGISTER. Hyatt said it is his "top goal," noting he "certainly can’t sit here and say that I have the magic bullet or can promise the imminent date that that will take place, but what I can confidently say is that I think our opportunities are the greatest they have ever been for that series to come here at some point." He added, "I can’t say that ‘Yeah, it’s imminent, here’s the date, mark it on your calendars.’ If I could, believe me, I’d be signing it at the mountain tops right now. But I do think in the meantime, we’ve got some very high-quality racing and we have the ability to highlight a series where it’s kind of a two-fold piece." Hyatt said an All-Star race is one event he would "love to see." Hyatt: "Where the All-Star race is and how it’s currently being run and managed is something that they’re always constantly looking at how to make it a little bit different." Hyatt said, "I know the guys very well at Charlotte Motor Speedway. They’re a great team and they put on a great show and we’re certainly not trying to get into their pocket by saying it this way but I believe it’s a race that we can do. We can mix it up better for fans" (DES MOINES REGISTER, 7/7). NASCAR purchased Iowa Speedway in '13 (THE DAILY).
