Upgrades At Notre Dame Stadium Key To Garth Brooks Concert

Notre Dame announced that Garth Brooks will perform the first concert at Notre Dame Stadium, as significant upgrades in recent years have "laid the groundwork for broader entertainment options beyond football Saturdays," according to the SOUTH BEND TRIBUNE. Notre Dame Assistant VP/News & Media Relations Dennis Brown said that the date for the concert "will be announced at a press conference in the 'not-too-distant future.'" Brown: "We thought about who we would want as the first concert in Notre Dame Stadium. You know, we’ve had other performers do one or two songs here and there, but a first full concert, we wanted to make sure that it really resonated and really, you know, was one that would be memorable for everyone. There’s only a few artists out there that can fill an 80,000-seat stadium. Garth Brooks is one of them." Although big musical acts "regularly visited campus" from the '70s through the early '00s, "none utilized the football stadium." Brown said that the university "hopes to hold two concerts at the stadium each year." He added that the university "expects to fit approximately 85,000 people for concerts by utilizing field seating" (SOUTH BEND TRIBUNE, 7/10). Brooks' concert at Notre Dame is believed to be the "first date on a college stadium tour of North America" (BILLBOARD.com, 7/9).

LINING UP NFL ENTERTAINMENT: In Green Bay, Kendra Meinert notes the Steve Miller Band will "play a free concert outside Lambeau Field on Sept. 8," the Saturday night before the Packers take on the Bears for a “SNF” matchup. The concert is "part of the Packers' 100 Seasons, a 16-month celebration of the Packers’ history that will be capped by the franchise’s 100th birthday on Aug. 11, 2019" (GREEN BAY PRESS-GAZETTE, 7/10). Meanwhile, Third Eye Blind and the Struts will perform at the Ravens’ Countdown to Kickoff Party on Sept. 7 at the Maryland State Fairgrounds (BALTIMORE SUN, 7/10).
