New Heat Broadcast Team Using Summer League To Build Chemistry

Next season will be Crotty (r) and Reid's first season calling Heat games togetherHEAT

Longtime Heat broadcaster Eric Reid and new partner John Crotty, who will replace longtime analyst Tony Fiorentino starting next season, flew into Las Vegas to "call four summer league games" this weekend to "begin working on their chemistry and timing," according to Manny Navarro of the MIAMI HERALD. None of the duo's work is "being broadcast live because NBA TV and ESPN have their own crews." But the Heat is "recording the work for Reid and Crotty's review." Reid and Crotty are "not calling any Heat games this weekend." Cox Pavilion, where the Heat summer league team played instead of the larger Thomas & Mack Center, has "no room in the gym for broadcast teams beyond those calling the games live for NBA TV" (MIAMI HERALD, 7/8). Crotty said, "This is the first step up for us. Developing chemistry is a pig part of it. I recognize that from both my radio broadcasts and studio experience. Building that chemistry really makes a big difference in the broadcast." In Ft. Lauderdale, Ira Winderman notes Crotty has "been involved in Heat broadcasts" as a radio or studio analyst since '04-05. But next season will be Crotty and Reid's "first working together" on the FS Sun telecasts (South Florida SUN SENTINEL, 7/9).
