Yankees Become Only MLB Team Yet To Plan Pride-Themed Game Night

The Yankees are currently the only MLB team that has "neither had a Pride Night nor has one scheduled," according to Kit Ramgopal of NBCNEWS.com. When the Angels "announced earlier this week their plans to host an LGBTQ-themed night" in June '19, the Yankees "were left as the lone Pride Night holdout among the MLB's 30 teams." N.Y.-based nonprofit LGBT Network President & CEO David Kilmnick said, "It's going to be real hard to look in the mirror and see themselves as the only team in Major League Baseball that is not holding a Pride Night." Ramgopal noted the Yankees "don't just sidestep Pride Night," the team in recent years has "largely shied away from promotions with 'an ethnic or cultural flavor.'" Yankees VP/Communications & Media Relations Jason Zillo said that the team "works behind the scenes to advance LGBTQ inclusivity." Denver-based nonprofit You Can Play co-Founder & President Brian Kitts said, "It's easy to get caught up in whether or not holding a Pride Night is a sin. In a lot of ways, Pride Nights are an easy way to check a box" (NBCNEWS.com, 7/5).
