NCAA President Mark Emmert’s total compensation "grew by nearly $500,000" during the '16 calendar year to more than $2.4M, according to Steve Berkowitz of USA TODAY. NCAA federal tax returns show that Emmert’s base salary of $2,078,075 "represented a 42% increase over his base salary" for '15, or just over $615,000. His retirement and other deferred compensation for '16 "fell by $200,000 compared to the amount reported for him" in '15 and each of the prior four years. Emmert did "not receive a bonus" in '16. Emmert's other reportable compensation for '16 "totaled $290,185." Emmert’s compensation for '16 "brought him closer to that of the commissioners of the Power Five conferences." In prior years, his pay "generally was considerably lower than theirs." The NCAA’s new return also showed that former Exec VP/Championships & Alliances Mark Lewis "received more than" $1.7M in total compensation in '16. In addition to Emmert and Lewis, nine NCAA execs "were credited with total compensation of more than $450,000, led by" Chief Legal Officer Donald Remy ($996,535) and Exec VP Oliver Luck ($855,738) (USA TODAY, 6/22).
