Clemson Not Interested In Allowing Alcohol Sales At Football Games

Clemson football's national success has helped sell plenty of tickets without alcohol salesGETTY IMAGES

Clemson currently does not allow alcohol sales at Memorial Stadium during football games, and AD Dan Radakovich has "not wavered in that department," according to Grace Raynor of the Charleston POST & COURIER. Radakovich said, "It hasn't been a huge topic here because we really don't look at that as something moving forward inside Memorial Stadium that is on our list of things to get done. There's a different atmosphere at our games." Radakovich has been "adamant about maintaining a family-friendly environment" at games and the team's "national success has been more than enough to put bodies in seats without selling booze in the stadium." Clemson has already "sold more season tickets" for '18 than it did in '17. Radakovich said that Clemson is "nearly sold out of those season tickets." He added the topic of alcohol at games is "as unique as a snowflake at each individual institution." While there is "no sale of any alcohol anywhere" in the stadium, fans who "have seating in the premium, club level and suite areas of the stadium are allowed to bring their own alcohol to the stadium at designated times prior to game day" (Charleston POST & COURIER, 6/22).

SOONER EVALUATION: In Tulsa, Eric Bailey noted alcohol sales are currently "only available" in premium areas during Oklahoma games at Gaylord Family Memorial Stadium. Asked about potentially adding general alcohol sales at games, AD Joe Castiglione said, “I certainly recognize what’s being discussed, planned and executed on campuses -- even in the Big 12, even in our home state. I’m tracking all of that." But he added, “At this moment, I don’t have any more of an answer than that” (TULSA WORLD, 6/21).

TAILGATE GUYS: In Washington, Justyna Tomtas notes football fans at the Univ. of Idaho will "officially be allowed to tailgate after the State Board of Education approved an alcohol permit" for '18 home games. The state board also "approved alcohol service" for '18 home football games at "pre-game events and for home football and basketball games in suite club seating" (MOSCOW-PULLMAN DAILY NEWS, 6/22).
