Golfer Stacy Lewis Sheds Light On Arkansas AD Search

LPGA golfer Stacy Lewis shed light on the Univ. of Arkansas' search for an AD after the "firing of Jeff Long," as she was "on the search committee for Long's replacement," according to Mike Irwin of Arkansas-based KNWA-NBC. Lewis, a UA alum, said, "It was interesting to be behind the scenes and see what was going on vs. what was being reported in the media." It was never reported, for example, that the committee "apparently had trouble getting qualified candidates to interview for the job." Lewis "indicated that there were some difficulties in the process." Lewis: "A lot of people said no just because of the way thing went down with Jeff (Long) leaving. We were in a position where we were going down lists instead of maybe our first choice." Lewis was named to the committee and "ended up playing a key role in the eventual hiring" of former Univ. of Houston AD Hunter Yurachek at Arkansas. Lewis is married to UH women's golf coach Gerrod Chadwell, and "through that connection, she ended up recommending Yurachek for the job." Lewis "traveled to Houston" with Arkansas Chancellor Joseph Steinmetz to interview Yurachek and "later learned from her husband that he had been hired as Long's replacement" (NWAHOMEPAGE.com, 6/20).
