Bucks Decide To Ditch Plastic Straws At New Arena

The Bucks' new $524M arena will not have plastic straws as part of a sustainability effort when the downtown building opens later this year. The Wisconsin Entertainment & Sports Center instead will use compostable food packaging, according to arena GM Raj Saha. Plastic straws aren't recycled and are not biodegradable. Environmentalists estimate U.S. citizens use 500 million straws each day. Green groups have been pressing city councils, universities, restaurants and now sports venues to up their recycling efforts and ditch plastic straws and utensils. EPL club Tottenham’s new stadium in London will also not have plastic straws, stirrers or packaging. Saha said more details about the Bucks sustainability program will be announced when the arena opens.
