MLS Facility Notes: Precourt Sports Releases Austin Stadium Renderings

The design is similar to a previous McKalla Place site plan and includes a amenities like landscaped spacesGENSLER, TBG, CAA ICON

In Columbus, Andrew Erickson noted Precourt Sports Ventures released renderings for a soccer-specific stadium at the "city-owned McKalla Place site in north Austin." The stadium renderings, produced by Gensler, CAA Icon and Austin-based TBG Partners, are "conceptual images of the southwest end, interior and northwest edge of the stadium." PSV has said throughout the potential relocation process that it would "privately finance" a $200M stadium in Austin at the appropriate site. The design, "similar to a McKalla Place site plan released earlier this month, includes a few amenities like landscaped spaces." That site plan also "noted space for three parking lots totaling approximately 1,000 spaces" (DISPATCH.com, 5/31).

TAKING THE LEAD: In Minneapolis, Nicole Norfleet notes construction company Mortenson has been "selected to lead the mixed-use development of the nearly 25 acres surrounding" Allianz Field. Plans for the property include "offices, retail, entertainment, hospitality and residential buildings." N.Y.-based S9 Architecture is the "lead architect for the project." The firm has "helped design large-scale mixed-use projects across North America including the redeveloped Lansdowne Park (home of TD Place Stadium) in Ottawa" (Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 6/1).

BUMP IN THE ROAD: In Nashville, Joey Garrison notes one of the Metro Council's "leading critics" of the city's MLS stadium plan at the fairgrounds has "proposed scrapping a controversial component to give 10 acres of public land to team owners for a private mixed-use development." Councilman Steve Glover, who has "failed on past attempts to halt the stadium fairgrounds project, has introduced an ordinance that would prohibit the city from entering into any 'sale, lease, transfer or conveyance of property' adjacent from the MLS stadium." The bill "heads to the council for a first of three votes Tuesday" (Nashville TENNESSEAN, 6/1).
