In San Diego, Tom Krasovic writes Chargers Owner Dean Spanos, with his team now in L.A., is a "media schmoozer in comparison to his San Diego self." The team "seems less uptight, too." The Chargers even allowed FS1's Colin Cowherd into the NFL Draft war room last week, which "isn't how the Spanos Chargers went about the media game in San Diego." But the stakes for the team now "aren't a stadium subsidy but relevance in an infinitely more competitive sports market" (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 5/3).
NOT A FAN: USA TODAY's Nancy Armour writes Redskins Owner Daniel Snyder is an "embarrassment" and the "worst owner in the NFL." Snyder is "unabashed in exhibiting both blatant racism," and, as reported in a front-page N.Y. Times story about his team's cheerleaders, "misogyny." The story detailed a '13 trip the Redskins cheerleaders took to Costa Rica for a calendar photo shoot, "during which the women posed topless or in body paint while team sponsors and suite holders -- all men, of course -- gawked." Snyder "continues to insist" the Redskins name "honors" Native Americans. Armour: "That Snyder is so reprehensible would probably be overlooked by many if he was actually a good steward of his team. But he's not" (USA TODAY, 5/3).
NO REUNION: In San Jose, Jon Becker wrote the front office personnel changes the Raiders are "expected to make" under coach Jon Gruden will "apparently not include a reunion with former team executive" and current Redskins President Bruce Allen. Gruden and Allen "spent nine years together" with the Raiders and Buccaneers. In an interview on SiriusXM, Allen said, "I do like the Silver and Black. And I think (Owner) Mark Davis, (GM) Reggie (McKenzie) and Jon are going to do great, and I'm so excited for them to go to Vegas. But I'm not going there" (San Jose MERCURY NEWS, 5/2).
