FC Dallas Using GPS Tracking System To Analyze Performance

Thanks to a new GPS tracking system from STATSports, FC Dallas players are able to "make modifications to their game based on the information they received" about their play, according to Jon Arnold of the DALLAS MORNING NEWS. Players can see data on "how far they ran, when they accelerated, how much time they spent at an outright sprint and how their heart rate changed during a game or training session." FC Dallas MF Jacori Hayes said, "It's cool numbers to analyze a game and say, you know, 'I felt like I ran about that much.'" FC Dallas Assistant Athletic Performance Coach Vander Salas: "It hasn't changed the way we think or how we deal with the players' workload, but it's helped us with rehabilitation and modify. It doesn't change the thought, but it changes certain practices." He added, "More than anything, it's a tool. Sometimes we go past the volume we want, but the most important thing is working with the player, asking if he feels good. The GPS isn't going to tell you that" (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 4/20).
