NBA Hits Record Attendance For Fourth Straight Regular Season

The NBA set an attendance record for the fourth consecutive season in '17-18, with an average of 17,987 fans per game, up slightly from 17,884 last season. Total attendance (22,124,559) also was a record this season, while the league set a new record for sellouts as well (741). The '16-17 season is the first in NBA history where league attendance was at least 95% of capacity. The 76ers, who finished the regular season on a 16-game winning streak and are making their first postseason appearance since '11-12, saw home attendance jump a league-best 17.3%. The Nuggets (+16.1%) and T’Wolves (+15.2%) also received big gains. At United Center, the Bulls once again led the league in attendance for a ninth consecutive season, drawing 20,776 fans per game. But that figure was down 4.2% from ’16-17. The Pistons had a 9% increase in their first season at Little Caesars Arena in downtown Detroit. Despite missing the playoffs for the second year in a row, the Mavericks extended their sellout streak to 678 consecutive regular-season home games and 745 sellouts including playoff games. The Clippers (-10.8%) had the biggest attendance drop among NBA teams.

NOTES: Figures include designated home games in London for the Nuggets last season and 76ers this season, and in Mexico City for the Suns last season and Nets this season. * = During a March home game against the Mavericks, the Kings experienced a smaller crowd of 11,360 due to protests near Golden 1 Center in Sacramento. ^ = The Pistons moved into the new Little Caesars Arena this season after playing for years in the suburbs (Palace of Auburn Hills). ** = In October, the Bucks hosted the Celtics at their old MECCA Arena (11,046). ^^ = Ongoing renovations at Philips Arena resulted in a reduction of capacity this season.
