Overnight Ratings: "Paterno" Draws 0.8 For Saturday Night Premiere

The Masters was the big TV draw over the weekend, but not the only thing on. HBO premiered “Paterno” on Saturday night, drawing a 0.8 overnight rating in the 8:00pm ET window. The debut had competition from some other Saturday night sports telecasts, including Thunder-Rockets on ABC. That game, the finale for ABC’s Saturday regular-season slate, drew a 2.0 overnight, up from a 1.4 for the comparable Clippers-Spurs last year. ABC will see a big jump for its regular-season numbers once final figures come out later this week. Meanwhile, NBCSN on Saturday night drew a 0.2 overnight for the Verizon IndyCar Series race from Phoenix, and ESPN drew a 0.3 rating for Minnesota-Duluth’s win over Notre Dame in the NCAA Hockey Championship.

NOTES: After some issues with its first F1 broadcast of the season from Australia, ESPN’s second race telecast yesterday morning from Bahrain drew a 0.5 overnight (on ESPN2)….FS1 yesterday drew a 1.7 overnight for the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race from Texas Motor Speedway. The race was on Fox in ’17.

The chart below lists overnight ratings from weekend sports telecasts on broadcast TV.
