Manchester United To Hit Mexico, Santa Clara On Summer Tour

ManU will face Liverpool at Michigan Stadium, where they beat Real Madrid last summerManchester United

Manchester United announced its preseason summer tour in the U.S., which will see the EPL club compete in the Int'l Champions Cup (ICC) against "some of Europe's biggest teams" as well as "face off against opponents from the MLS and Mexico," according to Aaron Flanagan of the London DAILY MIRROR. ManU will take on Liga MX' Club America in Glendale on July 19 and then "head to the Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara" to face the Earthquakes on July 22. ManU took on Real Madrid in the "same venue last summer." The ICC fixtures are "expected to be confirmed in the next week," with ManU set to face off against Liverpool at Michigan Stadium (MIRROR.co.uk, 4/3). In London, Paul Hirst noted the last time ManU visited Michigan Stadium, "some 109,318 fans packed into the ground" to see them defeat Real Madrid. Relevent Sports, which organizes the ICC, is "expected to announce the date and venue for the match, and the rest of the fixtures in the tournament, next week." It is "likely to take place in the final two weeks of July" given that the EPL season begins Aug. 11. Unlike last year, there will be "no Manchester Derby in America" as Manchester City and ManU have been "unable to agree on a venue, as the teams will be based on opposite coasts" (THETIMES.co.uk, 3/30).
