Canucks Tickets Prices Soar As Sedins Announce Retirement

Pending retirements for the brothers have increased demand for Canucks tickets across the boardgetty images

Ticket prices for Canucks LW Daniel and C Henrik Sedin's last home games "shot up in just minutes after the pair announced their retirement" yesterday, according to Stephanie Ip of the Vancouver PROVINCE. Their final home games at Rogers Arena will be tonight against the Golden Knights and Thursday against the Coyotes. Upper-bowl tickets on the Canucks' website were priced around C$45 for "each of this week's home games," and Thursday's game had "sold out of regularly priced seats" about 30 minutes after their announcement. Tickets on StubHub also started at US$40 yesterday morning, but "within minutes of the news, prices shot up to US$185 for upper bowl seats to Thursday's game." By yesterday afternoon, the cheapest seats were going for US$235, and a pair of lower bowl tickets in Row 4 on center ice "were priced at one point at US$5,000 each." Yesterday afternoon, upper bowl seats on NHL Ticket Exchange were going for more than C$300, while lower bowl tickets were going for "nearly" C$1,000 each. Vancouver-based broker Kingsley Bailey said that "sales were non-stop following the announcement" for his Vancouver Ticket business. Bailey said that Thursday's home game was the "highest he'd seen for any game this season -- and even higher than demand for any other game since the Canuck's Stanley Cup run" in '11 (Vancouver PROVINCE, 4/3).
