Media Notes: Orioles Games No Longer Broadcast On WJZ-CBS

In Baltimore, David Zurawik reported there will be "no lineup" of Orioles games on WJZ-CBS or "any other over-the-air Baltimore broadcast channels this season." Ending a "Baltimore TV tradition" that dates to '54 is the "result of a decision made" by MASN, which is owned by the Orioles and Nationals. MASN also confirmed that it will be the "sole place to see" Nationals games in the region this season, as there will be "no lineup of games on a Washington broadcast station" (BALTIMORE SUN, 3/28).

COMING HOME: The Twins "can be found" on WCCO-AM this season after spending the last 11 seasons away from the radio station. Twins games since '13 have aired on KQGO-FM, a station owned by Twins Owner Jim Pohlad and his family. After five seasons, the Twins "decided trying to mix baseball with that station's music format didn't work." The Twins will "still produce their own broadcasts." WCCO was "taken over" last February by Entercom Communications, which broadcasts 14 MLB teams (Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 3/29).

SAY IT AIN'T SO: The Nationals will "no longer print 'Inside Pitch,'" as the "complimentary playbill-style program with a scorecard insert, which has been available to fans at Nationals Park for the previous 10 seasons," is going all digital. The change was "motivated by a desire to be more environmentally friendly." Nationals Chief Revenue & Marketing Officer Valerie Camillo said, "Since the franchise returned to DC, we've printed over 100 million pages of 'Inside Pitch.' We decided if we can take this experience into the digital realm, let's try to do it" (WASHINGTONPOST.com, 3/27).
