A Day In The Life:<br />ESPN's Trey Wingo Talks New Schedule

"A Day in the Life" is a new feature in SBD examining the daily habits of interesting personalities in sports business. This week, ESPN’s TREY WINGO dishes on why he's particularly interested in the British Monarchy and how he's adjusting to a new sleep schedule.

4:00am: Heads to the office. “I'll grab some food on the way in from the local Dunkin' and turn on 'First and Last' with GOLIC JR. Luckily I don’t live too far away from the studios. It’s about a 15-minute commute and then I’m in there and I get cracking.”

4:15-6:00am: Show prep. “It’s a lot of going over stuff that happened last night. Talking about it with GOLIC and talking about it with the show’s staff and producers. Obviously the games are played and that changes things dramatically. We could have had a million ideas about what we wanted to do to start the tournament, but when Loyola shocks Miami at the buzzer and Buffalo chokes Arizona out of the tournament, obviously things change."

6:00-10:00am: On the air.

10:00-11:00am: "The next day’s show starts right after the last show’s over with. We have our post show meeting and then we sort of get some feelers out and take it from there. We’ll go back and forth probably on email about five or 10 times during the day. Right now, in terms of what I do outside of the show and the post-show meeting, really just doing as much research as I can on the Draft."

11:00-12:30pm: “I'll go to the gym here at ESPN's fitness center -- it was a Gold's Gym years ago. The hours for the show do open up the afternoons to get some stuff done provided that it’s not six to eight inches with gale-force winds outside. In the early spring months when it’s nice I’ll try and get outside and get a run in.”

12:30-6:00pm: “Lunch will sort of fluctuate on whether I go to the gym or come home first. But I just try to get a little bite to eat in there. I’ll also just do some regular around the house stuff. When the weather gets nice I’ll put the peg in the ground at the Golf Club of Avon and try to get as many swings as possible.”

6:00-9:00pm: “I have a lot of places I go for dinner, like the line from ‘Office Space,’ ‘I celebrate the entire catalog.’ But we usually pick between 4-5 restaurants here in town. I usually watch sporting events on TV but will also binge Netflix. I was told to get into 'THE CROWN' by my guy DAMIEN WOODY. He texted me, 'The Crown is lit.' When the big OL is all in on a TV series about the British Monarchy, you gotta go there."

9:00-9:30pm: “The stated goal would be to try and be in bed by that time, but I would say the stated goal is missed more often than not. I was a night owl my entire life up until the new show started in November. Golic gave me a great tip. I asked, ‘How have you done this all of the years?’ And he goes, ‘You just get numb to it.’ I’m just like, ‘Thanks Mike.’ That was good advice, just become a zombie, be a walking, sleeping, deranged human being was his advice. Honestly, it wasn’t far off."

Wingo often hits up ESPN's fitness center once the radio show wraps for the dayESPN IMAGES
