Franchise Notes

In Atlanta, Raisa Habersham notes former Hawks Community Development Coordinator Margo Kline is "suing the organization, alleging it discriminated against white employees and terminated her when she complained." Kline said that Hawks Exec VP/External Affairs David Lee, who is black, "promoted a culture of discrimination against white people, especially white women." According to the lawsuit, the Hawks fired Kline in March '17 after five years with the club, "three weeks after a final written warning regarding her conduct and performance." Kline filed an "employment discrimination charge with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission." The Hawks noted that EEOC charge was "quickly dismissed" (ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION, 3/21).

STRENGTH & HONOR: In Georgia, Christine Troyke notes controlling interest of the ECHL Atlanta Gladiators "has been sold" to Virginia-based real estate developer P. Daniel Orlich. Gladiators Owner Toby Jeffreys, who relocated the team from Mobile, Ala., to Gwinnett in '03, "transferred his majority stake in the team to Danor Vienna LLC, an entity owned by Orlich." The ECHL BOG has "approved the sale." A number of local minority owners also were "bought out in the deal" (GWINNETT DAILY POST, 3/21).

COME ONE, COME ALL: The Steelers will hold an NFL Draft party on April 28 from 12:00-6:00pm ET at Heinz Field, and "picks from the first two days will make appearances while the team finishes out its selections in Dallas." Current and former players will also "be in the building to sign autographs" (POST-GAZETTE.com, 3/19).
