Facility Notes

In N.Y., Jillian Jorgensen noted Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer warned MSG that it "could be endangering its tax abatement" with its decision to move this season's WNBA Liberty games to Westchester County Center. The abatement saves the company $50M a year and will "be up for renewal in a few years" (NYDAILYNEWS.com, 3/15).

BULL MARKET: USF AD Mark Harlan said that the school is "'full speed ahead' on a new football facility" with around $8M of the $40M budget already raised. The project, which was announced late last season, "proposes the creation of a 160,000-square foot building which would house not only an 83,000-square foot indoor practice facility but a state-of-the-art space for the football operations" (ORLANDO SENTINEL, 3/13).

TOUGH SELL: The Capital Region Development Authority, which oversees Hartford's XL Center, gave a "pessimistic assessment ... to state lawmakers on the chances for attracting a buyer, given the physical condition of the aging arena." CRDA Exec Dir Michael Freimuth: "The building is truly out of its prime." Buyers for the arena are "expected to be sought in April." Freimuth told a subcommittee of the legislature’s finance, revenue and bonding committee that it is "unlikely that a buyer would emerge without the state kicking in significant funding" (COURANT.com, 3/15).
