League Notes

In Cincinnati, Patrick Brennan noted the MLS season begins Saturday with "no announced plans for an expansion announcement the rest of this week and none on the horizon." That marks "another missed deadline" in the expansion process. MLS Exec VP/Communications Dan Courtemanche on Wednesday "reiterated the league's position on its Cincinnati progress." He said, “Although we have not finalized any agreements and all of the finalist markets remain under consideration, we have made the most progress in Cincinnati." He noted the league does not need to have a "fixed deadline" (CINCINNATI ENQUIRER, 3/1).

A KIND OF LEAP YEAR: Nuggets President Josh Kroenke detailed the team's idea of a one-round draft for high school players, which would give them a "chance to come in (and) earn a salary." However, they would have to "spend a mandatory year in the development league." The year in the G League would include a "year-long rookie transition program" to help "understand how to be adults" ("The Woj Pod," 3/1).

START YOUR ENGINES? In Miami, Jordan McPherson cites a German media outlet as reporting Liberty Media is "working on deals" to add F1 races to its '19 schedule in Vietnam, Miami and Argentina. The report added that Miami’s "proposed circuit is expected to be inspected this weekend." Dolphins Owner Stephen Ross' RSE Ventures is "rumored to be involved in efforts" to bring F1 to South Florida. Ross three years ago "attempted to buy" the circuit (MIAMI HERALD, 3/2).
