Plank Discusses Under Armour's Path Forward After Positive Earnings

Plank said UA's success so far in '18 after struggling last year will prove to be an important chapter in its historygetty images

Under Armour reported Q4 earnings two weeks ago, and while it was "not exactly a barnburner, (it) was at least better than feared," according to CNBC's Jim Cramer. In response, the stock "surged nearly 30% over the next three days." UA Founder, Chair & CEO Kevin Plank said, "We’re confident in what we are doing and I think we’ve demonstrated over the life of our company, we’re the best at getting better." He added this is a "moment in time for our business and for our brand where we just take a step back into focus.” Plank said the company was growing very quickly, and that created "a lot of strain" on the business. Plank: "We’re still standing, we’re in the game and we’re stronger than ever and we’ll keep fighting, you watch us throw and we’re going to win some games." He added, "We’ve seen some bruises, we’ve seen some of those things, but this is a company that knows who it is and is going to continue to march forward.” Plank: “What we lived through (last year) and what we’re doing in ‘18 will prove to be one of the most important chapters we’ve had in our 22-year history" ("Mad Money," CNBC, 2/28). CNBC's Tim Seymour said UA is having a “difficult transition in management,” but Plank is a “dynamic entrepreneur, he’s certainly a hard driving guy who ... is absolutely committed to this turnaround, but there's been major management changes there” (“Closing Bell,” CNBC, 2/28). Cramer said a “lot of people are going to write this guy off and that has been a mistake." Cramer: "He’s on the comeback” ("Fast Money," CNBC, 2/28).
