Naming rights granted under a 10-year, $43M agreement signed in '14 were not renegotiated

The Jaguars' home venue "will have a new name for next season," TIAA Bank Field, following the $2.5B acquisition last year of EverBank Financial by TIAA, according to Phillip Heilman of the FLORIDA TIMES-UNION. The name EverBank Field debuted in '10, "replacing Jacksonville Municipal Stadium." The venue also was "previously known as Alltel Stadium" until that 10-year, $6.2M naming-rights deal ended in '07. The current naming rights are granted under a 10-year, $43M agreement signed in '14. EverBank Senior Corporate Communications Specialist Tori Pappas said the current deal "remains in place and was not renegotiated." Pappas: "The agreement includes language to address a circumstance where the Bank seeks to change the name of the stadium." Pappas E added that TIAA is "not a party to any other naming-rights agreements" (FLORIDA TIMES-UNION, 2/17).

SAVE THE DATE: In Jacksonville, Ryan O'Halloran noted the Jaguars wanted to "play their annual London game in the opening quarter of the season," but the NFL office wanted to stage the '18 Int'l Series contest "closer to mid-season." So the Jaguars "will host" the Eagles in London in Week 7 (Oct. 21) or Week 8 (Oct. 28) this year. Jags President Mark Lamping said, "We prefer September dates for all the reasons we’ve discussed before, particularly how hot it is (in Jacksonville).” He added, "The reality is we’re trying to build a fan base over there to help us here in Jacksonville. Whether the game is played in September or October doesn’t [make] much difference to our fans over there. (Requesting a September game) is more of an initiative to satisfy our fans locally. But we’re one of 32 teams. We’re not the only team that plays in London, we have responsibilities to the league and the league sets the schedule" (FLORIDA TIMES-UNION, 2/18).

Florida-based health & lifestyle community Fitteam on Friday "signed a 12-year naming deal" for Palm Beach County’s "newest baseball complex," which whill now be named Fitteam Ballpark of the Palm Beaches, according to Tony Doris of the PALM BEACH POST. The Astros and Nationals, who hold Spring Training at the facility, "did not reveal how much money Fitteam is paying" for rights on the year-old ballpark. Fitteam is an "event brand partnership and organic products firm," and it "got naming rights to the Palm Beaches Marathon last winter" (PALM BEACH POST, 2/17). In Houston, David Barron noted the company will "unveil details of their partnership" on Wednesday (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 2/17).
