NASCAR Moving Jimmy Small From Iowa Speedway To Int'l Division

NASCAR today will announce that Iowa Speedway President JIMMY SMALL is returning to the sanctioning body to take on the role of Senior Dir of Int'l Development. He will be replaced at the track by Motor Racing Network President DAVID HYATT. Small, 32, will be based out of L.A. as part of a burgeoning international division that also now includes Chief Int'l Officer JIM CASSIDY and VP/Int'l Business Development CHAD SEIGLER. Small will report to Seigler, who is based in Charlotte. Small has been running the NASCAR-owned track since December ’13 and at the time was believed to be the youngest president of a major U.S.-based track. But rumblings began late last season in the garage that NASCAR was looking to reposition him. NASCAR currently has series based in Mexico, Canada and Europe, and the sanctioning body is believed to be working on new opportunities in China.

PRUDENT PLANNING: NASCAR President BRENT DEWAR this morning said the sanctioning body sees China and Brazil as the two next natural markets. He added that Small will have a particular focus on new opportunities in China and the pre-existing series in Mexico. Dewar added of basing Small in L.A., “As one who has done the trip to Asia many times, you’re very grateful when you get to land on the West Coast. So it’s part of our synergies move. I wouldn’t read too much into (basing him in L.A.) -- we’re just being thoughtful about time.” Meanwhile, Hyatt, who was presiding over ISC's radio network, will now be running a track that hosts NASCAR Xfinity and Camping World Truck series, races plus an annual Verizon IndyCar Series race. Hyatt will report to NASCAR Managing Dir of Event Marketing & Promotion BRANDON IGDALSKY, who takes over management responsibility for the track that NASCAR bought in November '13.
