The Rockies yesterday provided a sneak peek of their "huge new video scoreboard being constructed in left-center at Coors Field," according to Patrick Saunders of the DENVER POST. The new scoreboard will "measure 8,369 square feet" -- 258% larger than the board it is replacing. It will also feature the "shape of a mountain cutout, reminiscent of the club’s Colorado mountains logo." Daktronics is "creating a display that is the equivalent of 784 60-inch televisions, and will feature 6.8 million LEDs." The Rockies will "officially unveil the scoreboard on the home-opener on April 6." The team is also "making other improvements to Coors Field." New ribbon scoreboards have already been "installed on the facades around the ballpark, and an improved sound system is on the way, too" (DENVER POST, 2/1). YAHOO SPORTS' Mark Townsend wrote the new scoreboard is a "unique design that will undoubtedly have everyone talking" (SPORTS.YAHOO.com, 1/31). CBSSPORTS.com's Pete Blackburn wrote it is "so unique and so eye-popping that it is destined to become a defining feature of the ballpark" (CBSSPORTS.com, 1/31).
