Bulls Change Radio Stations With Bankruptcy Ruling At WLS-AM

twitter

The Bulls this morning announced a multiyear contract making WSCR-AM their flagship radio home, beginning with Saturday's game against the Clippers. The deal runs through the '20-21 NBA season and includes all preseason, regular season and postseason games, as well as pre- and post-game coverage. The Bulls' longtime broadcast team of Chuck Swirsky, Bill Wennington, and Steve Kashul will continue in their roles (Bulls). In Chicago, Phil Rosenthal notes the move comes as there was a possibility the team's deal with WLS-AM would "end early through a bankruptcy court ruling this week." WLS’ parent company, Atlanta-based Cumulus Media, "filed motions earlier this month with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in New York seeking to nullify 'a handful of extremely unprofitable contracts, including those'" with the White Sox and Bulls. WSCR sister station WBBM-AM "renewed its multiyear Bears contract last fall." Sources said that the Bulls and WSCR hope to "partner in a way that minimizes the potential downside for either party while recognizing the need to proceed quickly." Arrangements also "must be made for when Bulls games conflict with Cubs games." The Bulls had a "five-year agreement with WLS" that began in November '16 (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 1/31).
