USL's Indy Eleven To Play Home Games At Lucas Oil Stadium In '18

The USL Indy Eleven will "play home games" at Lucas Oil Stadium in '18 following their "move away from IUPUI's Carroll Stadium, where they had played" since '13, according to Justin Mack of the INDIANAPOLIS STAR. The club will "make its Lucas Oil debut March 31 against FC Cincinnati." Indianapolis Capital Improvement Board of Managers President Melina Kennedy said that logistical details "like turf, use of the Lucas Oil roof, how the team will handle overlap with Colts games and if the Brickyard Battalion's signature celebratory red smoke will remain part of the experience are still being worked out." The move "could help the Eleven show its ability to draw bigger crowds than the 9,000 or so that could squeeze in at Carroll Stadium." Efforts to fund a new stadium as part of the Eleven's pitch to become an MLS expansion club "have failed in the past" (INDIANAPOLIS STAR, 1/30).
