USOC CEO SCOTT BLACKMUN has been diagnosed with prostate cancer and will miss the Opening Ceremony of the Pyeongchang Games while he begins treatment, the organization said yesterday. His prognosis or further details were not made available, but a spokesperson said it was unlikely Blackmun would make it to South Korea at all. The 60-year-old Blackmun, who has been CEO since ’10, broke the news to staff yesterday (Ben Fischer, Staff Writer).

Morstead has already raised $111,607 toward his goal of $300,000 
FOR A GOOD CAUSE: Saints P THOMAS MORSTEAD last week "raised $221,143 for the child life program" in the Children's Minnesota pediatric health system, all thanks to a "spontaneous outpouring of support from Vikings fans who appreciated his sportsmanship" in the Saints' NFC divisional playoff loss. Morstead "shifted his campaign at the end of last week, focusing now on raising money for Louisiana child life." Morstead has already "raised $111,607 of a $300,000 goal, and he's got his sights set even higher." Morstead said that he would "donate $10,000 of his own money if the campaign crossed the $100,000 mark, and he'll also donate $50,000 of his own money if donations cross the $500,000 mark" (Baton Rouge ADVOCATE, 1/23).

NAMES: Eagles S MALCOLM JENKINS, as the team's nominee for the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year, was "allotted two tickets to the Super Bowl to give to anyone he wanted." He gave them to KEMPIS SONGSTER, who last month was released from a Pennsylvania prison after more than 30 years for a "murder he committed as a teenager." Jenkins has been a "vocal advocate for criminal and social justice reform over the last year" (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 1/23)....Rockies manager BUD BLACK is being honored Sunday at San Diego State's "A Field of Dreams" fundraiser at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
