Texas AD Del Conte Says Football Likely Won't Add Alternate Uniforms, Citing Tradition

Univ. of Texas AD Chris Del Conte said that he "doesn’t think the Longhorns will be adding any new football uniforms under his watch," according to Matt Jennings of HOOKEM.com. Del Conte responded to questions about "possibly adding alternate uniforms from Texas fans on Twitter this week." Asked if he had any ideas for alternate uniforms, he said he is "not one to mess with tradition." He also said that he "agreed with another fan who begged him not to make any changes to the Longhorns’ traditional look." Another fan asked Del Conte why he took that stance on UT's uniforms when TCU, his former school, has "a lot of alternate uniform combinations." Del Conte said that UT's tradition "puts its program in a different position" than TCU's. UT coach Tom Herman said that when he first took the job, alternate uniforms were "worth considering, but that the Longhorns also have a tradition worth preserving" (HOOKEM.com, 1/3).

EYES OF TEXAS: In Austin, Brian Davis noted Warriors F Kevin Durant will "make a record-breaking" $3M donation to UT's basketball program and the school's Center for Sports Leadership and Innovation. It is the "largest gift ever" by a former UT basketball player. With $2.5M of that donation going "straight to the basketball program, the main entrance at Cooley Pavilion will be renamed the Kevin Durant Texas Basketball Center." Also, the men's facilities inside Cooley will be "renamed the Kevin Durant Basketball Facility for Men." Durant's gift has already "funded new men's and women's lockers and the installation of new practice courts." New wall graphics were "installed along with audio improvements and formal office space" (MYSTATESMAN.com, 1/4).
