Scott Frost's Arrival As Nebraska Football Coach Has Provided Boost To Merch Sales

Scott Frost shirts have been "hot sellers" since he was announced as the Nebraska football coach earlier this month, according to Michael O'Connor of the OMAHA WORLD-HERALD. Some stores "faced sluggish sales" of NU gear during the team’s 4-8 season, but business has "jumped since the Nebraska native and former Husker quarterback took over." Banking that Frost would take the NU job, Scott Strunc, owner of three Husker Hounds stores in Omaha, had "2,000 Frost-adorned shirts made before the announcement was even official." The shirts "sold out within hours" of Frosts hiring on Dec. 2, and have "sold nearly 10,000" in total since. Meanwhile, local stores also are "reporting strong sales of shirts celebrating the Husker volleyball team’s national championship Saturday." Strunc said that overall sales of NU gear at his stores are "three times higher than last December." Blaine Braziel, Marketing Dir of four Husker Headquarters stores in Lincoln, said that sales this month are "about double compared with last December." He said that customers "drawn by the Frost shirts are also picking up other items." NU Dir of Licensing & Branding Lonna Henrichs said that any increase in sales of gear is "good for the university." Henrichs said that she "won’t know until next month whether revenue from royalties increased in December." But she said that she "expects that sales of Frost apparel will provide a good bump" (OMAHA.com, 12/20).
