Avocados From Mexico Making Fourth Straight Super Bowl Appearance; M&M's Returns

Avocados from Mexico will return to the Super Bowl for the fourth consecutive year, airing a "30-second spot at some point during the first half of the Feb. 4 game," according to Brian Steinberg of VARIETY. The company in recent years has "managed to slot its Super Bowl ad in the first commercial break." Avocados from Mexico Senior Dir of Marketing Kevin Hamilton said the commercial will have a "light-hearted, fun approach." The company "likes to show avocados ... at the center of fun times involving food, and this Super Bowl will likely echo that theme." GSD&M, Austin, is "helping to create the ad." Hamilton "would not comment on the price the company is paying for the spot" (VARIETY.com, 12/7). AD AGE's Jessica Wohl noted guacamole "appeared in last season's Super Bowl spot with a moment jokingly tied to subliminal advertising and featuring actor Jon Lovitz" (ADAGE.com, 12/6).

I'M BACK: AD AGE's Jeanine Poggi noted after a three-year hiatus, M&M's "will return to the Super Bowl" with one 30-second spot produced by BBDO, N.Y., during the first quarter. M&M's last appeared in Super Bowl XLVIII, in '14, "with a spot starring Yellow M&M" (ADAGE.com, 12/6).
